Comprehensive Camera Solutions
Backup Solution
The simplest and most cost-effective solution is to install a rearview camera on the back of the truck, connected to a monitor in the cab. The monitor automatically displays the camera feed when the truck is put into reverse gear.
Left/Right Side-Mounted Camera Solution
This solution is commonly used by telematics providers in conjunction with forward-facing and in-cab cameras. Side-mounted cameras—typically positioned on both the left and right sides of the cab—are connected to a monitor in the cab, giving the driver a clear, real-time view down both sides of the vehicle. This is especially beneficial on the right side, where blind spots are more severe and often require the driver to shift position in the seat just to see clearly.
You’ve likely seen the warning: "If you can’t see my mirror, I can’t see you." That message exists for a reason—blind spots are a serious safety concern.
Side-view cameras significantly enhance driver visibility, making them a great option for:
- Changing lanes on busy highways
- Navigating tight turns
- Operating in dense urban traffic
This setup increases driver awareness, reduces accidents, and enhances overall road safety.
Right Front Corner Blind Spot Solution
The right front corner of a tractor or power unit presents a critical blind spot that the driver cannot easily see. This area can conceal pedestrians, cyclists, or smaller vehicles—posing a serious risk during right-hand turns, especially in urban environments.
A simple and effective solution is to install a forward-facing camera mounted on the right side of the vehicle, angled to cover this blind spot. Connected to a monitor in the cab, the camera feed is automatically activated when the right turn signal is engaged. This allows the driver to clearly see any potential hazards in that area before making the turn, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
This solution enhances safety, particularly in city traffic and high foot-traffic areas and is a valuable addition to any fleet focused on accident prevention and compliance with urban safety initiatives.
360° Camera Solution
For fleets looking to implement a comprehensive safety system, a 360° camera solution is a simple and cost-effective option. This setup uses multiple cameras—mounted on the front, both sides, and the rear of the truck or trailer—connected to an in-cab monitor with recording capability.
Unlike telematics-based systems, this standalone solution is ideal for smaller fleets. The in-cab monitor can display live camera feeds and record footage locally. Video can be reviewed directly on the monitor or exported via SD card to a PC for playback and clip creation, providing flexibility without ongoing subscription costs.
Key benefits include:
- Rear-view visibility when reversing
- Side-view coverage, especially the right side, activated with the turn signal
- Comprehensive blind spot awareness around the entire vehicle
- Incident documentation to protect the driver and the company
This system enhances safety, supports driver confidence, and helps mitigate risk—all with a straightforward installation and no reliance on third-party telematics services.
Preventing Theft Solution
Fleets transporting high-value or sensitive cargo—such as pharmaceuticals, firearms, or other expensive goods—are prime targets for theft. To enhance security, high-resolution cameras from Eyes That Ride can be installed inside trailers or box trucks to monitor and record activity.
These interior cameras provide clear, actionable footage that can assist law enforcement by capturing identifying details such as faces, clothing, footwear, or company logos on hats and shirts. This level of detail can be critical in post-incident investigations.
Additional benefits include:
- Monitoring loading and unloading operations
- Documenting load shifts during transit
- Providing video evidence in the event of damage claims or disputes
The system can be connected either to an in-cab monitor with recording capability or integrated into an existing telematics platform, offering flexible options for both large and small fleets. This added layer of protection helps safeguard valuable cargo, reduce liability, and deter potential theft attempts.
Improving Nighttime and Inclement Weather Visibility – MirrorPlus Solution
During the day, large side-view mirrors provide drivers with decent visibility—especially on the left side. However, the right side still contains significant blind spots, and visibility on both sides becomes severely limited at night or during inclement weather such as rain or snow. Headlights and blurry mirrors are often all a driver has to rely on in these conditions, which increases the risk of accidents.
Eyes That Ride offers a powerful solution: MirrorPlus.
The MirrorPlus system replaces traditional exterior side mirrors with advanced camera "wings" mounted above the driver and passenger-side doors. Each wing contains two high-resolution cameras:
- One rear-facing for full lane coverage
- One downward-facing for close-range blind spot visibility
These cameras feed into monitors mounted inside the cab instead of the side mirrors outside the cab. Because the cameras are shielded from rain and snow and optimized for low-light conditions, the image quality—especially at night or in bad weather—is far superior to standard mirrors.
Additional advantages:
- Unobstructed visibility even in poor weather
- Enhanced safety when turning, changing lanes, or navigating narrow roads
- Optional integration with most major telematics platforms—MirrorPlus is the only system capable of streaming this video to telematics providers
Drivers are among a fleet’s most valuable assets. Equipping them with MirrorPlus gives them the crystal-clear visibility they need to get from terminal to terminal—safely, confidently, and in all conditions.
